  1. IRCTC was started on 27th September 1999 as a Public sector Enterprise under the Indian Railway Ministry to upgrade and modernize the Indian Railway and to improve the facilities provided by the Indian Railway, IRCTC started working from 3rd August 2002.
  2. Mostly IRCTC is used to book e-Tickets but it also offers I-Tickets, I-Tickets are almost the same as the tickets booked from counters just the basic difference is that they are booked online and are sent by Post.
  3. On the first day of commencement of e-ticketing, IRCTC booked 27 e-tickets.
  4. IRCTC booked 27,000 e-tickets per day in 2002
  5. IRCTC holds the record of booking 5.02 Lakhs of e-ticket on 1st March 2013.
  6. IRCTC had an NRC(Non-Railway Catering) project in which they operate a cafeteria in different ministries and Institutions.
  7. IRCTC also provides tour packages for Domestic and Foreign Tourists, one of the best Budget package for tourist is “Bharat Darshan” in which you can visit some of the important destinations across India. Some of the other IRCTC Tourist packages are Palace on Wheels,Royal Orient Express, Golden Chariot, Deccan Odyssey, Royal Rajasthan on Wheels, Buddhist Circuit Train and is a partner in “Maharaja Express”.
  8. IRCTC site is one the most visited sites, ranks under 800 worldwide and ranks under 50 in India.

Lots of users face problems during booking of e-tickets from IRCTC but they have been awarded numerous times for their different works-National Tourism Award of Excellence by Ministry of Tourism, Govt. of India. National Award for E-Governance, 2007-08 jointly by Department of IT, Govt. of India and Govt. of Haryana. The genius of the Web Award 2007 for being the “Best E-Governance PSU Site” by CNBC.
  10. IRCTC is one of the most hated sites among the Indian users who use it but still they use it regularly. IRCTC is also used for booking Tatkal tickets.
